Interview with Author Sylvana Camilleri
Author Sylvana Camilleri writes from real-life experience, emotion, healing, and resilience. Her writing journey began through pain, self-discovery, and the need to give a voice to emotions many people struggle to express.
She is passionate about helping others feel less alone through honest storytelling. Her work focuses on emotional recovery, self-worth, toxic relationships, healing, and personal rebirth. Writing became not only a creative outlet for her, but also part of her own healing journey.
Her goal as an author is to connect deeply with readers and remind them that even after heartbreak, betrayal, or emotional darkness, it is possible to rebuild yourself and rise stronger.
Tell Me More About Your Latest Book
My latest book, “From Broken to Reborn: The Day I Chose Myself After Loving a Narcissist”, is a deeply personal and emotional journey through love, emotional abuse, trauma bonding, heartbreak, awakening, and healing.
The book reflects the emotional reality many survivors silently live through. It explores the confusion, pain, self-doubt, and emotional manipulation that can happen in toxic relationships, while also showing the strength it takes to finally choose yourself.
More than just a story about pain, it is a story about transformation, survival, self-respect, and finding your identity again after losing yourself in someone else.

What Was the Most Challenging Aspect of Writing This Book?
The most challenging part of writing this book was reliving painful emotions while putting the story into words. Some chapters were emotionally exhausting because they came from very real experiences and deep emotional wounds.
At times, I had to pause and process my own emotions before continuing. Healing is not linear and revisiting painful memories while writing about them often brought waves of sadness, fear, confusion, and emotional exhaustion.
Another challenge was that the emotional experience was still very present while I was writing the book. There were moments of fear, anxiety, and emotional pressure, especially knowing that the person I wrote about was still very present in my life in different ways. Even though the book was never written to hurt, shame, or attack anyone, writing honestly about my experience required a great deal of courage.
What made it even more difficult is that, despite everything, he was still someone I deeply loved. That emotional conflict between love, pain, fear, and healing became one of the hardest parts of the entire journey.
At the same time, I knew honesty was important. I wanted readers to feel understood and seen, especially those who may be silently going through similar experiences themselves.
Turning pain into something meaningful and healing for others became the motivation that kept me writing. In the end, writing this book became part of reclaiming my voice and choosing myself again.
What Is Your Normal Procedure to Get Your Books Published?
My process usually begins with writing and organizing the manuscript carefully, followed by editing and formatting. Once the manuscript is complete, I work on designing the cover and preparing both Kindle and paperback versions.
I currently publish independently through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing
(KDP) because it gives authors creative freedom and direct connection with readers worldwide. After publishing, I focus on promotion through social media, reader engagement, and author communities.
Beyond publishing, an important part of my work is raising awareness about emotional abuse, trauma bonding, healing, and recovery. I am also working alongside NGOs and support organizations connected to domestic violence awareness, where my book is being considered and used as a resource to help survivors feel understood, supported, and less alone in their journey.
For me, publishing is not only about releasing a book — it is about creating conversations, awareness, healing, and hope.
How Important Are the Elements of Character, Setting, and Atmosphere to a Story, and Why?
They are extremely important because they shape how readers emotionally connect with a story.
Character is what makes readers feel invested emotionally. People remember how a character made them feel.
Atmosphere creates emotional depth and allows readers to fully experience the mood of the story—whether it is pain, hope, fear, healing, or love.
Even in autobiographical writing, setting and atmosphere help readers immerse themselves in the emotional journey and understand the reality behind the words.
How Many Books Have You Written So Far?
So far, I have published:
“From Broken to Reborn: The Day I Chose Myself After Loving a Narcissist”
I plan to continue writing more books focused on healing, emotional strength, self-discovery, and empowerment.
What’s the Best Way to Market Your Books?
I believe authenticity is one of the most powerful ways to market a book. Readers connect with honesty and real emotion.
Social media platforms, book trailers, reader reviews, author interviews, and word-of-mouth recommendations are all important. Building genuine connections with readers and sharing parts of the journey behind the book also helps create trust and emotional connection.
Consistency and patience are key because growing as an author takes time.
What Is Your Writing Routine? When You Write, Do You Plan or Outline Ahead?
I usually write when inspiration and emotion are strongest. Sometimes I outline chapters beforehand, while other times I write naturally from emotion and personal reflection.
I often keep notes of thoughts, emotions, or experiences throughout the day and later expand them into chapters or ideas.
For me, writing is both structured and emotional—it depends on what the story needs at that moment.
How Hard or Easy Is It to Establish and Maintain a Career in Writing?
Writing itself can be deeply fulfilling, but building a career as an author requires patience, persistence, and resilience.
There are moments of self-doubt and challenges, especially for independent authors who handle writing, publishing, formatting, promotion, and marketing themselves. However, connecting with readers who relate to your work makes the journey worthwhile.
Success in writing does not happen overnight, but consistency and passion make a huge difference.
What Is Your Advice for Aspiring Writers?
Write honestly and do not be afraid of your voice.
Many writers hold back because they fear judgment or think their story is not important enough. But often, the stories that come from truth and vulnerability are the ones that impact people most deeply.
Do not wait for perfection before starting. Keep writing, keep learning, and believe in your message.
Your story may help someone more than you realize.
