Interview with Author Simi Adigun
Dr. Simi Adigun is a Counselor, Life Coach, Professor of Christian Life Coaching Courses, and the Founder of Divine Purpose Counseling and Coaching. She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, children, and her Maltese puppy. She is the author of the devotional book, 21 Destiny prayers, and the children’s book series, A Stranger in the Green Forest.
When she is not writing, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children, reading books, and doing research on mystic experiences and how they impact our world. She believes that through our inner imagination, we can all live outside of our known environment to create what we have been destined to become; watching as it manifests in our natural lives.
Tell me more about your latest book
My latest book is a children’s 4-part series book for ages 7 and above. The animals in the book have anthropomorphic characters. They behave like humans and have human characters, traits, emotions, and so on. It is very suspenseful and full of humor. The residents (animals) in the Green Forest will have to overcome their fears as they tackle the mysterious stranger who has entered the forest. Uncovering this stranger and saving the Green Forest will force the residents to work together as they experience joy, fear, anger, forgiveness, unity, and the value of friendship throughout the next four volumes of A Stranger in the Green Forest.
What was the most challenging aspect of writing this book?
The most challenging aspect of writing the children’s book was being able to juggle other work commitments with my writing goals. When it comes to writing, you must find time to write; otherwise, nothing will get written down. It’s all part of being disciplined. Another challenge was finding the names of the characters. They all come from different cultures, backgrounds, and nations. Their names had to be unique to their anthropomorphic characters.
What is your normal procedure to get your books published?
I have an Indie publishing company with teams that work with me. We keep working on the book until the finished work is ready to be published.
Do you view writing as a kind of spiritual practice?
Absolutely! It’s a form of pouring down or transferring pictures and treasures stored up inside of us onto physical paper or digitally. We have to give those pictures and treasures a voice by aligning them in order of understanding. I love writing. I’ve kept a journal from a young age. Journaling helps me process my thoughts, and I also use my journaling time to write my prayers, aspirations, goals, ideas, and other revelations or intuitions.
How many books have you written so far?
I have written 3 books that have been published so far.
21 Destiny Prayers.
A Stranger In The Green Forest Vol 1 (How It All Began),
A Stranger In The Green Forest Vol 2- (The Trap) A Stranger In The Green Forest Vol 3 is in the works and should be published in the spring of 2023 or earlier.
What’s the best way to market your books?
Amazon online marketing ads, Social media marketing, local bookstores book signing events, and online and organic marketing.
How hard or easy is it to establish and maintain a career in writing?
I enjoy writing. It is one of my gifts, while I also focus on other areas of growth in my career. I have not looked at writing as hard or easy. Sometimes when I write, I smile, laugh, or see the characters’ emotions because they come to life. I believe that everyone has a story. Whether we choose to write it down or not is up to us. Writing our life stories or fiction is a legacy that we can pass down to the next generation.
What is your advice for aspiring writers?
What we are to do or become is already inside every one of us. Write down your ideas, thoughts, and those spontaneous thoughts that you get when you are still and quiet. Build your story from those ideas and thoughts. Sometimes the ideas we get in our moments of stillness can be the foundation of a great story. Doubt, fear, and naysayers are writers’ enemies. Ignore them and just write your story. The rest will fall into place.
