Interview with Author Alex Yau
Actioninja is the stage name Alex Yau created. He created this vibe and energy and uses it often to bring himself back on track no matter what happens in life. Alex is originally from Hong Kong but migrated to Auckland with his parents when he was 9. He has lived the majority of his life here in New Zealand. Alex has travelled around overseas to the UK, China, Japan, and Australia.
He still feels New Zealand is his home, especially as his partner is here and most of his friends as well. Even though Alex had the motivation to speak about his past life, he wanted to write a book before, but never thought of actually becoming a writer

Tell me more about your latest book
Every Cloud has Your Silverlining is about myself where I can see the silver lining that has been surrounding me, something I have been trying to see for myself after many years of ups and downs. This leads to the creation of Actioninja; a ninja always having the action, attitude, and gratitude for different aspects of life.
Welcome to … ACTIONINJA WORLD: A Mighty Ninja with Great Synergy!
In this book, I will show you my journey and the growth I gained through the different paths and opportunities I took. I will share what I learnt through strengthening my spirit and energy in order to help motivate you so you too can enjoy your life to its fullest.

What was the most challenging aspect of writing this book?
It would be the emotion rollercoaster behind it and writing about my difficult pass during the present times. It’s difficult because it involves feelings of love and friendship of the people I am surrounded with, and going through that definitely isn’t easy.
What is your normal procedure to get your books published?
I actually did some research about it. From the research, it said firstly pick a niche topic and write about it. Secondly it will be wise to have Editor, Formatter and other publishing professionals to check on the overall book design and context before self-publishing or publish with a physical and/or e store. You want it to make it a good impression when readers read it. Last but not least, make a marketing plan on how I would like it to be publish it effectively.
In addition to the above, I want to learn everything myself from a to z first time experience, therefore I have decided to self-publish on Amazon, other non-Amazon publishing platforms, Facebook/Instagram, and Neighbourly (New Zealand platform)
Do you view writing as a kind of spiritual practice?
Yes I do.
How many books have you written so far?
Only 1 and my first one, which is Every Cloud has Your Silverlining
What’s the best way to market your books?
I am publishing it through Amazon and Facebook/Instagram with a link to Amazon.
How hard or easy is it to establish and maintain a career in writing?
I don’t have much comment on that at the moment since I just wrote and launch my first book around June/July 2022. As a new author, I know that we can earn royalties through selling our book online in those online publishing platform.
I guess how much authors/writers can earn depends on the following:
– How good do we market ourselves online?
– How well do we establish our name as a brand in the eyes of our target audience and whether these audience will continue to read other series (if I will have other series in the future)
What is your advice for aspiring writers?
Being a first time writer, I would say if you have an idea and want to write about your niche topic, go for it and give it your best. I guess writers like to express their knowledge and wisdom to you target audience, therefore it’s always good to empower and educate them. You and your audience might learn something out of it, who knows, sometimes if you don’t try it, you wouldn’t know.
