Tell me more about your latest book
Absolutely! I just released my first book “We’re All Doing Our Best: Finding God’s Healing, Grace, and Truth Through Examination of Our Stories” in February of 2022. It challenges the reader to take a moment to get out of autopilot and to examine their individual life story. Everyone has a story, and within the content of our stories we can find the healing many of us so desperately long for.
It asks the hard questions, like “Why are we here? What is our life purpose? Why do people act the way they act? Why do they hurt us?” It examines part of my own journey here on this planet, but most importantly it challenges the reader to do the same so we can all grow together.
What was the most challenging aspect of writing this book?
Honestly, trusting God. It’s scary releasing your deep dark secrets to the world. However, if even one person can find inner healing through knowing they aren’t alone then it was all worth it.
What is your normal procedure to get your books published?
I chose to self-publish. I feel as though you get more artistic control over the destination of the book verses traditional brick and mortar publishing. The book is currently published through IngramSpark, and can be purchased through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Walmart, Books-A-Million, and IndieBound.
What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
I read A LOT. I have a book in my hand every spare second I have when I’m not working or raising my two boys. I’ve had 34 years researching this book, since it is a collective autobiography and shared story swapping with everyone I come in contact with. We all learn and grow from each other. I have a degree in Psychology, and have spent the last two years taking Biblical Hebrew classes, so that has influenced the book as well.
How many books have you written so far?
“We’re All Doing Our Best” is my first book. I have the idea for my second book, and will put the pen to paper once I finish the audible version for this one.
What’s the best way to market your books?
Honestly, without sounding like a religious fanatic, I gave it to God. I felt like He was the one that called me to write it, and He has directed my paths bringing me in contact with others who have been helped by reading it. I am extremely extroverted and talk with everyone I come in contact with, and I’ve had overwhelming support in family and friends in promoting the book for me via social media. They say we are separated by six degrees of separation, and the world seems smaller than ever!
What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?
I woke up every day at 3:45 in the morning, would spend 60 minutes of pray and devotional time before I started writing. I would try to get at least 90 minutes of writing time in before the madness of the day started, and 100 days later I had a book manuscript. They say to climb a mountain, you only have to take one step at a time. The book writing process isn’t any different. Keep writing and don’t give up on your dreams!
What is your advice for aspiring writers?
Your story matters! There is someone out there that needs to hear what you have to say. You never know what a difference your words will make in the life of someone else. Be a jellyfish in a world full of sharks, and if you do get a chance to read my book I pray it has a word for you. Shalom.
