Interview with Author Delton Wright
Author Delton Wright was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. After obtaining an internship at a stock brokerage firm during college, he found that his love of Wall Street was still there.
While working in both the public and private sector, Delton decided to write A Stock Tip for Murder: A Cam Marshall mystery as his first book. If he’s not writing or blogging, Delton is spending time with family and friends.
Tell me more about your latest book
Cam Marshall is a small town guy whose dream is to work in New York on Wall Street. He finally lands the job but six weeks in he finds himself in a situation. A murder has occurred right under his nose. The more that he finds out, the more that he realizes that he might not survive New York. Cam learns quickly that if he is to live through the situation he must make a few choices that he’d never imaged that he would make.
What was the most challenging aspect of writing this book?
The biggest challenge to writing this book was the various endings that I had in mind for the story. I had to choose the best ending of the vision that I had for the book. My epilogue helped me complete the book to my satisfaction.
What is your normal procedure to get your books published?
For my first book I decided to self-publish. The control that self-publishing gave me regarding book design and content really created a freeing experience.
What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
I spend a lot of time researching scenarios and resolutions. Both are essential in guiding me to a mysterious mood for the book. It takes me about six months to thoroughly research settings, characteristics and storylines before I begin to write a book.
How many books have you written so far?
I wrote my first book in 2021 and I’m in the process of writing the follow-up for release in summer 2022.

What’s the best way to market your books?
Social Media has been a great tool for marketing. Facebook and Twitter have been helpful along with book groups and word of mouth. I take every opportunity to self-promote my book.
What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?
I like to write four to five days a week – normally three to four hours each time. Some of that time could be proofreading or brainstorming ideas. It has helped me avoid long periods of writer’s block by writing in this manner.
What is your advice for aspiring writers?
My advice is to never give up on your ideas. You are the writer of your book. Make sure that you present the work that you want to present. Publishing and marketing are important parts of the process but the story should always be your main focus and goal.
