Interview with Author Michael Girgenti

Author Michael Girgenti is originally from Chicago IL, and has spent the last twelve years in Southern California. He actively creates and releases independent children’s books once a month.
Tell me more about your latest book
The book you’re highlighting isn’t the latest book, but it was the first children’s book I released after deciding to go full speed into the children’s entertainment space. It is called “Archer Otters” and it’s arguably my most popular book / series so far.
What was the most challenging aspect of writing this book?
I didn’t find any challenges in writing the book, it’s short, sweet, cute, and honest. It makes for the perfect bedtime story.
What is your normal procedure to get your books published?
I self-publish for now, so it is very easy to release titles. I see myself in the future partnering with a major distributor for sure.
Do you view writing as a kind of spiritual practice?
There is for sure something spiritual with writing, a lot of people ask how do you come up with these characters or stories? Many will ask, where did that come from, and a lot of times I don’t really have the answer because I am not sure how it comes. I am thankful and blessed to have strong intuition, confidence, and sense of awareness to know when the ideas are coming and more so the skills to capture and elaborate on them when it happens. I joke with people all the time and say Walt Disney and Dr Seuss follow me and whisper ideas in my ears or through my hands when I type.
How many books have you written so far?
I have 21 books available online, 16 stories with 5 Spanish Editions. Over 300 rough drafts and development stories on my computer and growing. It would be a lot to list, I recommend visiting the website to preview them all – www.strawberrypencilmagic.com
What’s the best way to market your books?
Not really sure, still learning. I know everyone’s path will be different. I believe by paid ads probably. It’s sad but the individual with the most money behind their books will go the furthest, unless you have major connections but then again connections are equivalent to gold, so it goes back to the money thing. It’s not necessarily about who has the best book but more who can reach the most people.
How hard or easy is it to establish and maintain a career in writing?
I think it’s as easy or hard as you make it. To me, it’s easy. It’s what I love to do, and it makes me happy.
What is your advice for aspiring writers?
Don’t over think it. I personally believe there’s beauty in error. I think a lot of people are stuck on the idea of making the “perfect” book or story. Just start getting your ideas out however you can and if you’re consistent with your efforts and actions, the public will catch on to your passion over time. It’s like planting a seed. Just water it and give it sunshine.
