Interview with Author Geraldine Granleese

Author Geraldine Granleese has worked in schools for over 25 years. 

The children who she drew her inspiration from with their stories and play.  She thanks these children for having faith in her when she told them wanted to write.

She has three grown up children of her own and live in Dungiven County Derry a small town in Ireland.  She is for ever proud of all the great writers Ireland has produced.  She is writing children stories as this is where her heart lies.

Geraldine wrote her first book Experiment 1 which is beautifully illustrated by Sayani to get children to go outside into their garden and what lives there it a really feel good story about the central character happy place.  Everyone needs their happy place.

She is currently writing another children’s story due to be published end of summer. and also a beautifully illustrated Christmas story.  Underlying theme in her books is that every child is special and should be encouraged to see the beauty in the world and find their happy place within.

Tell me more about your latest book

My book is about a little monkey who lived in a box in a laboratory with 3 crazy scientists but one day Larry one of the scientists took Mo home with him where Mo sees discovers the beauty of the earth and encourages the scientists to appreciate the earth and the life within it firstly rather than exploring what was outside it and the wind whisper Eco Mo he changes the scientists role to become Eco pioneers too .

What was the most challenging aspect of writing this book?

I must say none I wrote it over three evenings I am lucky to work among children who inspire everyday

What is your normal procedure to get your books published?

As this is my first children’s book, I  was unsure about publishing though I feel I was rushed into go to self publish as I had so many requests for my book

Do you view writing as a kind of spiritual practice?

I found my mind is release from my daily thoughts and taken to my happy place in my mind where I love to be

How many books have you written so far?

Experiment ! is my first children’s book I am currently finishing my second book out end of August 2021 and another  due out for Christmas 2021

How hard or easy is it to establish and maintain a career in writing?

I discovering this everyday Iit takes a lot of research I would like to get my books world wide and considering bi lingual texts with English I would say on the web is my most focused way to promote my books

What is your advice for aspiring writers?

I found working with children a great bonus and thinking outside the box having a creative streak and some craziness too then get writing
