Interview with Author Myrt Price
Author Myrt Price and his 10 year old daughter Mya collaborated on their first children’s book. They started this project during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was a way to bond and it gave them something to do while they were spending time at home.
Tell me more about your latest book
The book is titled, “Mr Buddy the Donkey”, and it’s about a Donkey who winds up all alone. However, after meeting two strangers, the donkey’s life is changed forever.
What was the most challenging aspect of writing this book?
Well, since this our first book – The most challenging part was figuring out how to format and publish the book. I’ve worked as a news reporter for close to 20 years, so the writing part was easy. There was a lot of trial and error, but eventually we figured it all out.
What is your normal procedure to get your books published?
We self published on Amazon. We created a paperback version and e-book version.
Do you view writing as a kind of spiritual practice?
Writing has always been something I enjoyed. For years, I wrote stories that were often very sad. It was great writing something that was positive and fun. Plus my daughter’s pictures were amazing. Which motivated me to make our dad-daughter project a reality.
How many books have you written so far?
So far, “Mr. Buddy the Donkey”, is our first book. However, we plan to create additional Mr. Buddy books.
What’s the best way to market your books?
So far we have marketed our book using word of mouth and using various social media platforms. We even created a funny commercial.
How hard or easy is it to establish and maintain a career in writing?
So far writing is a hobby, but I don’t know what the future holds.
What is your advice for aspiring writers?
When I asked my daughter, she said, “The process is long, but don’t give up.” I agree, I also think writers should learn as much as possible and just go for it. They should also “always be promoting” their work. Books arent going to sell themselves. If people dont know about your book, they won’t know to buy it.
