Interview with Author Erica Yvette

Author Erica Yvette is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. She was educated in the Orleans Parish School system where she also studied cosmetology. Although she doesn’t practice in this field, her love for hair and nails remains strong and has become one of her favourite hobbies. Erica is currently the lead payroll administrator at one of the city’s top universities. She is happily married to her husband and best friend of fifteen years and has a pet cat. Even though she doesn’t have children of her own, her love for them and her love for God’s Word led her to serve as the youth Sunday school teacher at the Mt. Tabor B. C. Watching these young people grow in God’s Word has been one of her greatest accomplishments. God blessed Erica with the spiritual gift of encouragement. She loves being available to give a word of advice, hope, and encouragement or just being an ear to listen. God has used her to touch many lives; and for this, she is eternally grateful and gives all glory to God

Tell me more about your latest book

The title of my book is Why Settle for Crumbs? You Deserve the Whole Cake! This book is non-fiction/self-help. It was written to inspire, uplift and encourage. In this book I share some of my experiences of being married to someone who didn’t value me and didn’t treat me the way that I deserved to be treated. I realized after leaving this relationship, that I settled for mediocrity or crumbs. The book also has note pages because I pose questions to the reader that will challenge them to evaluate their own relationship. I want my readers to recognize their worth.

What was the most challenging aspect of writing this book?

I think the most challenging thing about writing this book was how much of my experience I would be willing to share because there are situations  in the book that my family didn’t know.

What is your normal procedure to get your books published?

I used a publishing company to publish my book.

Do you view writing as a kind of spiritual practice?

I would definitely say it was therapeutic.

How many books have you written so far?

Why Settle for Crumbs? You Deserve the Whole Cake is my first and only book right now.

What’s the best way to market your books?

I have found that social media has been a great tool for marketing.

How hard or easy is it to establish and maintain a career in writing?

I don’t know that writing for me is a career, but writing this book came easy to me because I just really want to help people.

What is your advice for aspiring writers?

My advice for aspiring authors would be; if you have a story to tell, tell it and be true to who you are.
