Interview with Author Teresa Burns
Author Teresa Burns is a newly self published Christian Children’s Author. She wrote her first book this year in June 2020 and it went live on amazon on November 18th 2020. Working with children has always been her passion as well as uplifting others through Christ. She is praying that you are truly blessed by her words and find encouragement as you embrace her journey.
Tell me more about your latest book
My book is titled “My Dad Is Angel” and it is based off of my testimony, as I lost my father to Glioblastoma in 2018. This type of cancer is extremely rare, yet highly aggressive. My father lived for only 6 months and he fought incredibly hard during his diagnosis. But as a child watching your healthy, strong and active father slowly decline due to an aggressive tumour it takes toil on you emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically.
Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?
Being a Christian. I always rely on the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me. I like to either write during the evening or early within the day. I find that establishing that “down” or “quiet” time is the key.
What is your normal procedure to get your books published?
Essentially at the beginning of this process my core goal was to have my book published by the end of year. However, I have a great support system, which consists of my family and my friends. So I have been blessed to be able to ask them for support or for direction. Being goal oriented and having an accountability partner helps as well (Even if you are that person).
What made you decide to sit down and actually start something?
I have always enjoyed writing ever since I were younger. I would always write out my thoughts in a journal and I still do this until this day, as writing has always been therapeutic for me. God called me to be a writer and I delayed the process a lot. One day in June of this year I woke up to the Holy Spirit providing me with title of my book and I then wrote and completed it on the same day.
How many books have you written so far?
So far this is my first one. While I have others. They have yet to be published. But I have another children’s book that focuses on a child who has ASD (Autism) . As I have worked within the profession of both Mental/Behavioral Health for roughly ten years now. The other book that I am working on is catered to those who are single and are feeling defeated within their “single” season. I am looking forward to releasing them next year.
What’s the best way to market your books?
While I am still new to this market, I am finding that promoting my book via various social media groups (ie Facebook and Instagram) really helps. I have also come across some outstanding opportunities to promote my book within blogs, Christian websites and more.
What are your ambitions for your writing career?
My ambitions for my writing career are to eventually own my own book publishing company/ LLC, continue to network, hopefully attend some events in the near future and to continue to grow and influence others as a writer overall.
What is your advice for aspiring writers?
My advice for aspiring writers would be to just do it. We all have a wonderful story to tell and while others opt to express themselves through song, or through art, why not go the extra mile and express yourself through your words. Our words have power so create your powerful testimony while you still can.
