Interview with Author Brett Rezewski

Author Brett Rezewski has been married to his wife for over 15 years. Their three boys are 12, 8, 5. He is an 8-year US Air Force Veteran. Not only he is a husband, a dad, a full-time employee, but he’s also a caregiver to his wife.
“If there’s one lesson I hope my boys will learn from me, that would be to never give up. I made a decision right after the stroke, that I was going to be positive as I can be and not let anger or resentment creep in towards God. I wasn’t going to let this have a harmful impact on our boys.
That decision paved the way for me to write a book about our story and be able to inspire many people. Because I made that decision, it also gave me the freedom to dream”.
His dream is to reduce the rate of suicide among the Veteran population by empowering them to share their story. “By sharing their story, they will be able to inspire others and this will give them a sense of purpose”.
Tell me more about your latest book
We were living pretty “ordinary” lives until one, single event changed our lives forever. My wife, Michele, suffered a spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage – a brain bleed. She was alone with the boys. At the time, they were 9, 5, and 2. About 200mL of blood pooled in the right side of her brain
The book is about our story, which is a hard one, but also one of hope. I share how important the exact timing of everything was and the only way it could have happened is because of God’s design.
The book will inspire Christians and non-Christians. The only we have been able to do all we have is through His strength.
What was the most challenging aspect of writing this book?
The most challenging aspect was sharing our story in a way where the power of it isn’t lost. I want to honor all those who played a role in getting us to where we are now. Also, it was intimidating for me knowing that I needed the manuscript to be above a certain word count. I paid close attention to the word count, which was stressful. But once I learned to have that as an after-thought, writing became easier. Before I knew, I had a nice-sized book.
What is your normal procedure to get your books published?
As this is the first book I will have published where only my name is on the cover, I’m learning as I go. I knew I didn’t want to go the route of an agent yet and I didn’t want to self-publish. I am going through a Publisher who is also coaching me along the way. He will be putting me on three podcasts where I will be able to share my story and what I want to do to help Veterans. Also, I’m learning the qualities of a good publisher and the ones that are not so good. I
What motivated you to become an author?
Because our story is so powerful, I knew it had to be shared. It helps that I love to write. So it was a natural decision for me to do the work.
How many books have you written so far?
I am a coauthor in one book called: “Awakened: The Magic Within – Triumph Over Trauma Vol.1”
As an author, do you prefer the traditional book or online version? Why?
I prefer traditional books, but mine will be in both formats.
How active are you on social media, and how do you think it affects the way you write?
I try to post every day on facebook. I may miss a day here or there.
What is your advice for aspiring writers?
If you don’t know what to say, just start typing. You’ll be surprised how fast your fingers will start to move.
