Tell me more about your latest book

My book entitled “A Gracious Enemy” corrects the official government lies out the Indochina War. Being an Australian ex-infantry soldier, I found it to be galling that so many people had swallowed the lies and political hype of the Australian, French and USA Governments who sought to make it look like the Vietnamese were aggressors when in fact they were fighting to have their own country back! The book title “A Gracious Enemy” came about during an interview I was having with a former commander of the VietCong in which he called Australians “A Gracious Enemy”.

What was the most challenging aspect of writing this book?

The most challenging aspect of this book was becoming used to the names of the Vietnamese and how they are applied. I was able to get hold of translated records of the VietCong D440 battalion and I compared that with what was written it the diaries of the Australian field commanders and the speeches of the Australian Parliament. The speeches of the Australian Parliament are contained in books known as Hansard.

What is your normal procedure to get your books published?

I normally first release eBook edition (Kindle) and follow that up with a paperback about a month afterwards.

What motivated you to become an author?

I first became an author when I began to use writing as a means of managing PTSD which is a hang-over from the Vietnam War. While I was serving in that, many Aussies would say, “What the hell are we doing here? How can these people be considered to somehow be our enemies or to threaten Australia? We should not be here, let the Americans sort out their own problems on their own! These Vietnamese only want their own country back!”

How many books have you written so far?

So far, I have written and published five (5) books. Their titles are: “Full Circle Mick”; “For the Love of Armin”; “Anglo-Saxon Invasion”; “Now What?!!”; “A Gracious Enemy”. At the moment, I am editing a new novel entitled “A Cale of Doomsday”, it should become available by the end of September.

As an author, do you prefer the traditional book or online version? Why?

As an author, the lowest cost of producing books is the eBook. However, I like to hold what I read in my hand; therefore, I prefer the printed editions. Of the printed editions, I prefer the hardcovers because the book is protected by the hardcover.

How hard or easy is it to establish and maintain a career in writing?

As long as the writer knows what he/she wants to write about, there is no problem with writing. Just think of it as an extension of speech. The the only real difficulty lies in having sufficient money to cover the necessary publicity to market and sell the book.

What is your advice for aspiring writers?

Know what you wish to write about and then perform extensive research before you write. When you have the facts, then you are in a position to make a story out of the facts.
