Interview with Author Genevieve Hermoso

Author Genie Hermoso is a registered Physical Therapist. She is registered to work in NY, CO, NM and TX. She currently resides in Texas, working full time as a physical therapist for a facility.

She was originally born in Cebu, Philippines where she immigrated to the US, in late 2013. Life as an immigrant is very challenging. She lived in NJ and worked in NY for 4 years until she moved halfway across the country to save a relationship. When that did not pan out, she hid in New Mexico for 12 months then decided to move to Texas.

As soon as she moved to Texas, the pandemic happened and it’s been a daily roller coaster since then. She is grateful to be alive, healthy and still working full time. She has two dogs, Yorkies named Bacon and Skye who shared her journey and traveled with her from NY/NJ to the West Coast then to the Southwest where her dogs are currently sheltering in place.

Tell me more about your latest book

My book, Love In the Time of The Trump Era is a 3-part book series with Love in the Time of Trump Book 1 and Book 2 already out. With Book 3 being prepared for November 2020 publication.

It is a story of a girl named Alexa, who works for Viral Feed, an internet news site, who has to cope with change during the time of the Trump presidency.

The backdrop of the book is the real-life events of 2016 elections after Trump won with fictional characters that have to navigate dating in an ever polarized political climate. Alexa is a Democrat and she falls for two men, Lee, a guy who voted for Trump and Cayden, a guy who is a Liberal. She tries not to allow her politics to cloud her judgment but can relationships prove to be too complicated in the time of Trump?

What was the most challenging aspect of writing this book?

The most challenging part of writing this book was dealing with a break-up, moving to the Southwest, working full time and traveling a lot. It was not easy writing the two books but I somehow made it. Not only that, I published 4 other books in less than a year and more books are coming out every 3 months.

What is your normal procedure to get your books published?

I took the self-publishing route.

What has influenced you the most as a writer?

I was a thesis short of earning a Master’s in Literature so what influenced me a lot were the classic books such as Pride and Prejudice which Love in the Time of Trump is partly based.

How many books have you written so far?

Love in the Time of The Trump Era Book 1

Love in the Time of the Trump Era Book 2

Poppy Love

Bullied Inc.

I have a holiday freebie book and a prequel to Love in the time of Trump.

As an author, do you prefer the traditional book or online version? Why?

I prefer the online version. As a reader, I buy mostly kindle books or eBooks. I don’t go for regular paper books because I travel a lot and I like to be minimalist.

Also, having your books available anywhere is very convenient.

How hard or easy is it to establish and maintain a career in writing?

Everything takes effort. Writing with a full-time job takes a lot of juggling and focus. All I know is that I just keep on going. I just write as much as I can on my free times, after work and on the weekends. I never stop writing. I also never stop marketing my books and creating content which means, I write a blog, produce podcasts and I vlog. Whatever it takes to sustain this writing career, I would do it.

What is your advice for aspiring writers?

If you have a book within you, just do it. Learn the ropes along the way. Don’t wait for things to be perfect. It never will happen until you take one step, then the next, then the next. You figure out the kinks and issues as they arise. Perfection is a life. The thing about self-publishing is, there is always an audience waiting for you. Your job is to find them and for them to find you. Just like Dory in Finding Nemo: Just Keep Swimming!
