Interview with Author Neal Owens
Author NEAL OWENS was born and raised in Washington, DC. He wrote his first story in the fifth grade, but didn’t consider writing as a profession when he pondered career choices. But after 33 years of service to at-risk youth and families, he resigned as Director of Operations for a non-profit organization to pursue his neglected passion. While he has the natural talent for storytelling, he had to learn the technical aspects of writing. He took an online novel course and joined a few writing communities to learn the art of writing. He sought and received constructive criticism, which prepared him to effectively execute his debut novel, Mirrors of Life: What is your life in the mirror?
Ramona: Tell me more about your latest book?
Neal Owens: My debut novel is a riveting tale of faith and perseverance that leads to intrigue and suspense. The compelling story in realistic fiction encompasses the genres of drama, romance, suspense, spirituality, and philosophy. Here are a few of the reviews that came from strangers on Amazon.

A thought-provoking read of an innovative businessman seeking to raise the quality of himself and his community. Jam-packed with lessons on life and glimpses into black American spirituality, but with a modern realism tackling the types of problems we all face. Lush detail and vivid writing, with steamy romance scenes that sometimes border on the erotic. Will keep you thinking a long time after its done, and may even change your world-view!

Even though everyone’s lives are different, there is a common thread, expressed in the pages of this story. The struggles and the heartaches—good decisions and poor ones—it is the character’s lives, it is ours. The commonality of the human condition is well expressed in these pages. There is no escaping it. Well done.

A poetically written novel that will grab you by the heart. It lifts the veil on the hard reality of living as a black and poor person in this world.

A compelling and dramatic drama that follows Derrick as he gets in over his head in an avaricious environment where all that matters is money. Though-provoking, creative, and intense, this book is a page-turner.
Ramona: What was the most challenging aspect of writing this book?
Neal Owens: Patience was the biggest challenge. It took 5 years to complete this novel. That added to the financial hardship for my wife and me.
Ramona: Do you ever struggle with writer’s block? How do you overcome it?
Neal Owens: I overcome writer’s block with patience. I do not try to force myself to write. I focus on other things like reading and just relaxing until the urge returns.
Ramona: What motivated you to become an author?
Neal Owens: I was born with the gift to write. I attribute my motivation to God, who placed this story in my mind and guided me in the path to execute it to the status of 5-star ratings from individuals and professionals (Readers’ Favorite, Global Network, Nila Eslit (Blogger), and Online Book Club).
Ramona: How many books have you written so far? List and name them all here
