Interview with Author Cara Bingham

Author Cara L Bingham lives in Surrey; South East England, and until recent years lived in a place that inspired her to write her first book.  Although Cara’s learning difficulties set her back academically, she always found a love for written and creating stories.  Cara also loves singing, dancing and acting and is in a local musical society.

Ramona: Tell me more about your latest book

Cara: Child of Nature is about an ordinary fourteen-year-old who discovers she has magical powers. It is book one in a trilogy, so the first part is very much an introduction to Mira Storm Weather’s life.

Ramona: What was the most challenging aspect of writing?

Cara: For me it was learning about grammar. I didn’t go to a mainstream school, and as such, I was only taught the very basics.

Ramona: What motivated you to become an author?

Cara: My stories mostly. Ideas come to me and I have to write them down, so I thought why not try publishing them?

Ramona: What did you lately learn when writing your book?

Cara: I learnt that I am quite determined; I had a few setbacks while writing my first book, but I overcame them.

Ramona: On average, how long does it take to write a book?

Cara: Roughly about six months to write and another 6 months to polish and edit it. I will try to work faster in the future.

Ramona: How many books have you written so far?

Cara: Child of Nature is the only book I have out at the moment.  But the second book in the series: Quest for Freedom is being edited now, so I’m hoping that will be released soon.  And I’m nearly finished with the first draft of the third Mira Storm Weather book: Guardian of Magic.  I also have a Historical Romance: Duty and Desire, that is going through editing.  I plan to branch into Contemporary Romance in the future.

Ramona: What does success look like in an author’s position, and how do you measure it?

Cara: I’m not sure; to be honest I’m still trying to figure that out.

Ramona: What is your advice for aspiring writers?

Cara: If you are passionate about writing and getting your stories out; then do it! It will be a lot of work, and you will probably need to do things you hadn’t thought about, but it’s worth it.  Be sure to research publishing and join Facebook groups that support new authors.
