Interview with Author Wesley Lowe
Wesley Lowe has been a Fantasy and Science Fiction buff since his teens and began writing stories of his own in his early twenties. His first book is a fantasy novel entitled: “The Griffin’s Gauntlet.” After numerous rejections from mainstream publishing houses and a short stint in self-publishing, his work was picked up by Helm Publishing, a small independent publisher.
After twelve years, Helm Publishing closed shop and he had once again started soliciting agents and publishers with his work, with no luck. That was when he finally decided to self-publish with Kindle Direct Publishing, an Amazon company.
Since then, he has been displaying and selling his novels at comic cons and other book selling events in the Upstate NY area. He hopes one day to be a full-time author.
Ramona: Tell me more about your latest book
My latest publication is entitled “The Oracular Gambit,” part of “The Necromancer Wars” series. It is about an oracle who has envisioned a dire prophecy of doom. So three quests are dispatched throughout the land in the hopes of counteracting the threat. The first quest must deal with a powerful Weather Witch who has ensnared The Pix in a relentless drought. The second must aid a displaced king in regaining a magic sword from a dragon. And the third must find a living war machine that holds two children prisoner.
Ramona: What was the most challenging aspect of writing?
I find that the most challenging aspect of writing is the time and commitment it takes to write a novel. It takes a significant amount of patience and will power to set aside enough time to put your thoughts on paper. It is a time-consuming process peppered with discouragement. But the finished works make it all worthwhile.
Ramona: How many books have you written so far? List and name them all here (or put amazon link here)
I have written six books so far. They are:
“The Griffin’s Gauntlet” Prelude to The Necromancer Wars
“The Coven Initiates” Book One of The Necromancer Wars
“The Royal Quests” Book Two of The Necromancer Wars
“The Wiccan Path” Book Three of The Necromancer Wars
“The Oracular Gambit” Book Four of The Necromancer Wars
“Neverworlds” An Anthology of the Fantastic
I am currently at work on my sixth book which is the last volume of The Necromancer Wars series.
Ramona: What motivated you to become an author?
I have always found inspiration in the works of JRR Tolkien, Terry Brooks, and George RR Martin. These authors have motivated me to write fantasy novels of my own.
Ramona: What brought you to write your books?
I have always had story ideas knocking around in my head and writing provided an outlet for me. That, and I was once told that I was “a very good writer.”
Ramona: What book or books have had a strong influence on you or your writing?
The novels that have inspired me the most were “The Hobbit” by JRR Tolkien, “A Game of Thrones” by George RR Martin, and “The Elfstones of Shannara” by Terry Brooks.
Ramona: What is your advice for aspiring writers?
Commit yourself to writing a page a day, even if you don’t feel like it. That way, you can make steady progress and even complete a 365-page novel in a single year.
