Get to know author Monica Roberson

Monica Jones Roberson is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. She is a wife and mother of two children. She is the CEO/Founder of R.E.S.U.M.E (Rapidly Exploring Success Utilizing Maximum Experiences, which is an organization that derived from her career in Education as a Teacher and has been a Career Services Professional for the last 10 years. She is also a Certified Career Development and Grant Resource Specialist.

After graduating from L.E. Rabouin Career Magnet High School she went on the receive her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Wiley College in Marshall, Texas and is completing her last year at Walden University where she will receive a Master of Public Administration degree with a concentration in Non-Profit Management. Monica is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, where she has held roles as Chapter President.

Throughout the years Monica has faced an array of issues ranging from financial, medical, and marital to relationships with family and friends and dealing with trauma and grief. She endured this all while doing everything in her power to continue to maintain a stable living environment and leading community events. As she healed she combined her gifts with her lessons learned to assist others with working through their layers of bondage, pain, grief, resentment and those who feel as though there is no hope in sight. She acts as their motivator, encourager, and guide as they attempt to find their way back to a life of peace, love and happiness by uncovering and releasing the layers of issues that keeps them bound.

Ramona: Being you’re a first-time author of Layers Unleashed: 7 Layers of Unleashing the Inner You, what are your inspirations for the future?

Monica Roberson: My inspirations for the future is to a best selling author, help others who have a similar story to overcome their truths and write more books that inspire.

Ramona: Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?

Monica Roberson: I do feel all things are possible. Everyone has a story and has embarked on a different journey. You have to be determined and willing to dig deep within or create a content of writing material that catches the eye of the readers.

Ramona: How long on average does it take you to write a book?

Monica Roberson: It just depends on the time invested, genre, content and length of the book. It can typically take anywhere from 3-4 months.

Ramona: Tell me more about your first book ‘Layers Unleashed: 7 Layers of Unleashing the Inner You’

Monica Roberson: Layers Unleashed is a motivational guide compiled of real-life experiences paired with guided tools that will aid you in achieving a level of life and fulfilment without holding on to bondage. It also deals with a number of other issues, which normally keep us from forgiving, feeling anger and resentment. This book is designed for all ages and small group exercises. All 7 Layers will give you a bit of real-life experience in each area. You will be prompted with questions to follow that are sure to help you dig deeper and explore each layer of yourself. The areas of exploration are Childhood, Trauma & Grief, Health, Family, Marriage, Finances and Friendships.

Ramona: Do you have a favourite time and place where you write?

Monica Roberson: I like to write when I’m in deep thought or just reflecting.

Ramona: Do you read much and if so who are your favourite authors?

Monica Roberson: Yes. I love to read. My favourite author is Jekayln Carr “You Will Win” has been my biggest inspiration to writing and becoming an author.

Ramona: What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

Monica Roberson: I research factual information about life and statistics. I am always seeking ways to increase my life in all areas as well as gaining knowledge to help others.

Ramona: What does literary success look like to you?

Monica Roberson: Literary success to me is creating content that catches the eye of an audience and makes them believe in your story, you and themselves. They are also willing to share what they gained with others.
