Pursuing a career in writing has proven to be no easy task. Pippa Richardson has written for community publications, self-published four books and written about a thousand articles for an online website with On Topic Media. Her main career has included customer service, laboring for factories and running small events for her own small business.

Her interests have led her to study a variety of different fields. These include Tourism, Business, Biology, Fitness, Nutrition, Health, Alternative Therapies including crystal therapy, chakra healing, astrology, aromatherapy, angel healing, tarot, yoga and metaphysical studies.

Her writings have ranged from poetry, recipes, advice, psychic development, metaphysics, health and wellbeing, personal growth and development to women’s issues, our emotional journey and life events.

Ramona: Tell me more about your latest book

My latest book is called ‘Finding Truth: An Unexpected Journey’. It's about realizations of truth in the areas of mental health, travel, science and education as well as about spirituality and knowledge. It came from a sense of a higher self, from the perspective of the true self, expressing truths I have found along my journey in life up until this point in time.

Some of the subjects I explore include Drugs and Mind Expansion, Travel, Love and Relationships, Psychological Sciences, Metaphysical Sciences, Mental Health and Treatments, Healing and Healers, Tools to Succeed and all about how to cope with Failing.

Ramona: What was the most challenging aspect of writing?

Consistency!

Consistently making the effort and staying on task and on point. Consistently reaching the state of being where you make the most sense and are writing from your true self. Consistently being able to make time and being able to focus on writing.

Life gets busy, and if you don’t focus and make time to write that book, it never gets done! My strategies have included writing before I go to bed at least 3 times a week, when the house is quiet and everyone has gone to bed, so I can focus!

Ramona: What motivated you to become an author?

The romanticism of it. The image of the writer, who works for themselves with their noble craft, pen in hand and papers everywhere full of great ideas and stories. The form of the written word is often the preferred means of communicating my ideas and thoughts. I find the spoken word is so easily ignored or forgotten whereas the written word somehow can command attention in a way that can be so intricate and detailed.

I started as a scribbler, writing anything and everything down, I had so many notebooks full of notes and ideas! Then I learnt to type at a reasonable pace, so my laptop became my new best friend for creating written pieces. I’ve always had access to t he internet since I was 12 years old. I found sites to write for and started from there.

My first book came through my obsession with poetry in my 20’s. I would write a poem a day, at least! My first book of poetry was written over two and a half years. My obsession with poetry was a bit out f control and I felt like I just had to write it all down and get it published!

I’ve tried to do freelance writing but have not had much success. So, I created my own websites to write for and became a Chief Editor of several sites, where I can self-publish whenever I want!

Ramona: What brought you to write your books?

I began writing poetry as a means of self-expression. Creating poems from raw emotions during highly emotional times in my life. It was an obsession, my disorganized and often rhyming thought patterns made great poetry! I wrote everything down in notebooks. I would take a pen and paper everywhere! The poems would just flow anywhere and everywhere, on the train, at home, on the couch, at friend’s places and even at work!

Then I created a book mixed with poetry and just thoughts, trying to break the norm and create something unique. I had been through a rough time mentally, I had moved out of home and I wanted to write something that had poetry included, but not JUST poetry.

I eventually began to write more structured writing by book 3, a recollection of over a decade of my career and events. I had been studying event management and been working in the events industry casually since 2006, starting out as a volunteer for fun, and to get a free ticket into events I couldn’t afford. So I wrote about what I know, what I've experienced for myself in my career and working life and what I was comfortable sharing with the world.

Book 4 is where I decided to enter the field of life purpose writing, metaphysical writing and writing about truths. I completed an online degree in Metaphysical Sciences in 2015, and then completed the Masters in 2017. The writing for the course took me to whole new fields of thought and inspired me to write about new topics. The research from these courses exposed me to new information and fields of writing, which led to my own writing within these fields.

Ramona: How many books have you written so far? List and name them all here

1.     Life, Love & Everything

2.     Symptomatic Addict

3.     The Real Events Industry: My Story

4.     Finding Truth: An Unexpected Journey

Ramona: What book or books have had a strong influence on you or your writing?

James Redfield’s Celestine Prophecy.

So many books from research during my university studies. Textbooks, books on science, metaphysics, psychic development and mental health.

Authors including Patrician Mercier, Judy Hall, Pete A. Saunders, Jean Houston and Osho.

Ramona: What is your advice for aspiring writers?

Keep it up! Keep going! Don't be afraid! You are good enough and you'll only get better with practice! Find an outlet, for a website, journal, magazine or start writing your own books!  Just start!

Decide your interests, what you know, what you don’t know and what you’d like to know and go from there!

Read, read, read.

Research your topics of interest, get inspired by other authors in the field, what they have to say, and let their work start a conversation with you, and begin your own discussion on the topic of choice!
