INTERVIEW:- Get to know author Jon Halfhide

Published: 24- Jan- 2019    |    Language:   Article in English    |    Category: Interview

Jon Halfhide was born in Brentwood, Essex, UK in 1961 and now lives in Somerset.

His mother served in The Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps during WW2, initially in India close to the Burma border and latterly in Japan where she nursed British POW's after liberation.

Jon has often thought that QA's were the quiet heroines of WW2 and so seeks to highlight their courage and altruistic dedication to the brave wounded "on either side".

Ramona: How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?

Jon Halfhide: It just made me want to write better and better, to paint pictures in the reader's imagination.

Ramona: How long on average does it take you to write a book?

Jon Halfhide: It depends on my working (employment) pattern, but generally 60-70,000 words from 3 to 6 months.

Ramona: How many books have you written so far. Name them one by one

Jon Halfhide: Only 3 are published, although I have written others which I subsequently destroyed! "Spoofaloof the Wozoz," "On Either Side" and "On Either Side Part 2."

Ramona: What is your latest book name, and what’s all about?

Jon Halfhide: "On Either Side Part 2." Set in the early 1970s, it's about hunting Nazi war criminals. However, it's driven along by a romance.

Ramona: What is the most difficult part of your artistic process?

Jon Halfhide:: It's finding that unbelievable part of your mind and thinking to try and create beautiful prose. It's sometimes like being in a trance!

Ramona: Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?

Jon Halfhide:  Yes I read them with a degree of trepidation! I've only had one poor review which hurt my pride to the core and almost made me stop writing. I'm dreading any others!

Ramona: What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

Jon Halfhide: I don't plan my books, they evolve!  Research is by books on the subject and Google.

Ramona: What does literary success look like to you?

Jon Halfhide:  It's in reviews. If someone had enjoyed my book that gladdens my heart as that is the reason why I wrote it.
