Artist Sergio Gauci Stonepecker
Artist Sergio Gauci Stonepecker specializes in Gebla tal-Franka (Globigerina). He has been sculpting in limestone since he was 13 years old.
Born in 1984 he started his interest in the ancient medium of sculpture in the late 90s : When he worked as an apprentice stone mason (after school) for two years . He continued studying deeper visual art from 2001 till 2006 at the Malta school of art in the capital city of Valletta . From 2006 onwards he tested his skills inside his studio, working mainly on Maltese limestone. In 2007 he made his first step in local exhibitions in Malta, Gozo and Paris (France).
In 2009 he took part in the bi-annual international art competition exhibition in Paris France `homage de Malt ` and took first price as a special distinction Artist . From 2009 till 2014 he did live sculpture sessions in public areas for tourists and took part also in various events in Malta and sister island Gozo.
In 2015 he was given the opportunity to tutor clay sculpture to Russian boarding school students from Scalcoff Russian School of art … for a year . He also did a few public works like the monument of one of Malta`s Leading prime ministers : Dom Mintoff at the old locality of Hal Tarxien (Malta ) and the poly granite life size sculptures of water birds for Bird Life Malta.
Nowadays his main Limestone sculpture work is focused on the traditional carving of tombs for Maltese families and local churches and basilicas. Apart from sculpture Sergio Gauci Stonepecker is also a book illustrator for local philosophy books.
